The students in Ogun State, under the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), halted traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to protest the disappearance of Quadri Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday.
The students blocked the busy highway for over an hour, holding placards with messages like “An injustice to one is an injustice to all,” “IGP Egbetokun, please come to our rescue,” and “IGP, investigate Quadri’s disappearance.”
Ogunbode, who graduated with a degree in Political Education from LASU, was reported missing on February 17, 2025, near a Celestial Church close to the university’s Ojoo campus.
Kehinde Thomas, the National President of NAOSS, accused the Lagos State police of mishandling the case, alleging corruption and police complicity. He called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and order a thorough investigation into Ogunbode’s disappearance.
Thomas expressed concern over the lack of progress in the case despite the police tracking Ogunbode’s phone and arresting two suspects, including the Shepherd of the Celestial Church where he was last seen.
However, no significant action has been taken by the police to solve the case, even though evidence links the suspects to the disappearance.
“We believe that there has been foul play and police complicity,” Thomas said. “The family of Quadri has spent thousands of naira trying to get information, yet no tangible progress has been made.”
He emphasized that NAOSS will continue to press for justice, urging the IGP, an indigene of Ogun State, to use his resources to uncover the truth.
“Quadri’s parents are suffering, and we cannot stand by while this case remains unsolved. We are determined to take all necessary steps to ensure justice is done,” Thomas added.
Although two suspects have been questioned, police investigations have not advanced. One of the suspects allegedly withdrew N2 million from Ogunbode’s bank account, and a significant sum of money was transferred to the Shepherd’s account. Despite these revelations, no action has been taken to resolve the case.
The students, who disrupted traffic to demand attention to the case, expressed their frustration at the lack of progress and vowed to continue their protests until justice is served.
