Alex Wele, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers, has called on residents to support the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (retd.), in his efforts to bring lasting peace to the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Friday, Wele expressed his belief that while the imposition of emergency rule in the state was unexpected, it was a necessary step to address the ongoing political crisis.
Wele also urged the suspended governor and legislators to use this period to work towards reconciliation, which could ultimately lead to their return. He advised Rivers residents to stay calm and cooperate with both the Federal Government and the Sole Administrator.
“Ibas has been assigned the task of restoring law and order in the state. Let’s work with him and see if the suspended governor and legislators can resolve their differences,” Wele said.
Describing the crisis as unnecessary, he emphasized the need for peace and urged the political leaders to focus on delivering tangible democratic benefits once their suspensions are lifted.
