
Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, has passed away at the age of 89. He died in the early hours of Sunday, just days before his 90th birthday.
A statement released by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family confirmed the news. It reads.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude to the Almighty that we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and distinguished technocrat, just days before he would have celebrated his 90th birthday.”
Dr. Olunloyo, who held esteemed traditional titles such as Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was widely respected as a statesman with a remarkable career in public service.
He made history as the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, among other significant roles.
The statement further added: “His extensive contributions to the nation and humanity remain a great source of pride for his family and associates, even as we navigate through this painful loss.”
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and shared that arrangements for a dignified burial are underway.
