Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked mourners attending a funeral in Kwaple, a village near Chibok in Borno State, leaving at least 15 people dead and abducting several others.

The assault occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday during a burial ceremony for a community member.

Confirming the attack, the Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, Modu Mustapha, said: “The terrorists struck during the funeral. Many lives were lost.”

A resident who requested anonymity told reporters that 15 men were killed in the attack, and several others were taken by the assailants.

“It was horrifying. They arrived shooting. I wasn’t there, but those who were say 15 people were killed. They also burned an EYN church, five houses, and other properties,” the source said.

Attempts to contact the Borno State Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.

More updates to come.
