The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has dismissed reports suggesting that its Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, has been suspended, calling the claims false and misleading.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, the management clarified that Professor Fasina remains the substantive Vice Chancellor and has only proceeded on a six-month accumulated annual and research leave, starting Monday.
According to the statement, the university’s Governing Council, during its 7th Emergency Meeting on April 14, approved 126 working days out of the 288 requested by Professor Fasina for his leave. The leave period includes time for academic research.
“While on leave, he suggested two Deputy Vice Chancellors to act in his absence, and the Council appointed the most senior among them, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, as Acting Vice Chancellor. This appointment does not imply a replacement but a temporary arrangement,” Ogunmodede stated.
The management also condemned what it described as “malicious misinformation and blackmail” surrounding the Vice Chancellor’s leave, emphasizing that such false narratives are intended to mislead the public and tarnish Professor Fasina’s image.
“To set the record straight: Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina remains the substantive Vice Chancellor of FUOYE and will serve in that capacity until the end of his tenure in February 2026,” the statement read.
The university urged the public to disregard the false reports and warned that legal action may be taken against individuals or groups spreading misinformation.
