A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Engr Ayodele Asalu has once again commended the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the National Education Loan Funds (NELFUND), stating that the scheme has ensured indigent students have opportunity to complete their education.

Asalu made this remark on Wednesday in Ejigbo at this year’s scholarship presentation to 1,000 students across his local government.

The beneficiaries got free registration forms for both West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Speaking at the event, the APC chieftain lauded President Tinubu for the initiative, describing it as an impetus for greatness.

Asalu said, “I must also use the opportunity of this event to commend the great vision behind the launch of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) by the Tinubu-led Federal Government. NELFUND has provided a golden opportunity for indigent students to complete their education and attain greatness, their backgrounds notwithstanding.

“The Fund has given interventions like my own very positive outcomes. As we give free forms to students here, the Federal Government, through NELFUND, is helping to complete the cycle so that the dreams of most of these indigent students do not end in futility.

“To the beneficiaries of this year’s intervention and their parents and guardians, I want to enjoin you to make the best of this opportunity. I have taken from my own resources to ease your pains, and I hope that you will give your examinations your best efforts as the biggest reward I can get for my investment in your future.”

While calling on political office holders to do more, Asalu condemned a statement by the House of Representatives member representing Iwo Federal Constituency, Lukman Kayode Mudasiru, who said failure of President Tinubu to release funds delays renovation of Iwo Central Mosque.

He said, “Permit me to also use this occasion to challenge political office holders across the State to get more committed to the development of our communities. If I could have sustained these costly interventions for ten years, despite holding no political office to date, political office holders can do much better to touch the lives of our people.

“It was saddening to read comments credited to a Member of the House of Representatives from Osun State who recently claimed he was waiting for the Federal Government to release funds for the renovation of his community’s central mosque.

“His comments deeply saddened me because it has become a trend for political office holders who hold positions in trust for the people to dump their community development responsibilities on government, when they have clearly amassed enough resources from same government coffers to be able to cater to those responsibilities from their own pockets.

“At this time in our journey as a people, our society needs more responsible representatives who are willing to put their personal conveniences on the line for the general good. I have done this over the last ten years, and I remain committed to ensuring that we do not fail for as long as God gives me life.”
