Barcelona moved to seven points clear at the top of La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win over Leganes on Saturday, thanks to a Jorge Saenz own goal, the result puts pressure on second-placed Real Madrid who face Alaves on Sunday evening.

Hansi Flick’s side are chasing a historic quadruple lacked their usual flair but did just enough at Butarque Stadium to secure a vital three points following their emphatic 4-0 midweek Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

“The fight and mentality the team showed was great,” said Flick. “Madrid play tomorrow, but we’re focused on ourselves. It’s been a great week.”

Though Barcelona struggled to create clear chances, their players celebrated passionately at the final whistle.

“These are the types of games where titles are won,” said defender Eric Garcia. “We’re top, which is where we want to be, and we’ve increased the gap.”

Barcelona, who lost to Leganes at home in December, have now gone 24 matches unbeaten in 2025. Leganes employed similar tactics as in their earlier upset—slowing play and disrupting rhythm—but couldn’t repeat the result.

The best chance of a lackluster first half came from Leganes, with Dani Raba setting up Adria Altimira, only for Wojciech Szczesny to make a key save. At the other end, Marko Dmitrovic denied a deflected effort from Jules Kounde.

Barcelona suffered a setback when Alejandro Balde was forced off with a suspected muscle injury. “It’s not looking good,” Flick admitted. “We’ll assess it tomorrow.”
