Actress and entrepreneur Liz Anjorin has expressed her continued admiration for veteran gospel singer Tope Alabi, despite Alabi’s refusal to attend a surprise birthday celebration organized in her honor.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Anjorin made it clear that she would not let the incident affect her respect for Alabi.
She said, “I have many projects to focus on, so I can’t dwell on what my sister (Alabi) has done. It doesn’t impact my personal life. People who hold grudges can’t move forward and be productive. Do you think because she didn’t honor me yesterday, I won’t greet her when I see her? I will still greet her with my two knees on the floor. Whatever happened is between her and God.”
The controversy arose when Alabi refused to leave her car for the surprise performance after discovering Anjorin was the celebrant. It was later revealed that Alabi’s services had been booked by Anjorin’s overseas fans, who had paid N2.5 million, a fee that Alabi subsequently refunded.
Asked about any potential reasons for Alabi’s refusal to perform, Anjorin clarified, “I’ve never had any issues with her. I’ve even attended her concert without any problems. I like Aunty Tope; she’s a very good sister to me. What happened yesterday might have been a mistake. We’re all human, and no one can say exactly what happened except her.”
Anjorin also emphasized that the situation was not between her and Alabi personally, but rather with those who had arranged Alabi’s involvement.
Attempts to reach Alabi for a statement on the matter were unsuccessful, as she ended the call abruptly when contacted by Sunday Scoop.
