Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic development through tourism with the commissioning of the Kunle Afolayan Productions Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, Makinde hailed the film village as a strategic addition to the state’s economic roadmap and pledged continued support for private sector-led initiatives that drive job creation and cultural promotion.
“This project embodies our vision—using infrastructure and tourism to drive economic growth,” Makinde said. “Igbojaye is now on the global tourism map.”
In a significant announcement, the governor revealed that the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan will be upgraded to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft, transforming it into an international airport by the end of the year.
He also disclosed plans to construct airstrips in Otu and Igbeti to further support tourism and regional security.
Commending award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan for choosing Oyo as the location for the resort, Makinde emphasized that the state remains open to investment from all quarters. “Oyo is open for business. If you can add value, we welcome you,” he said.
To bolster the new film village’s operations, the state government will rehabilitate the Okaka–Igbojaye road, install a solar mini-grid and dedicated power supply, accelerate infrastructure development to boost accessibility
Makinde assured that the resort would have reliable electricity and road access by Christmas.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, commissioners from key ministries, and the Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA).
