Popular radio host Oladotun Kayode, widely known as Do2dtun, has called out reality TV star Whitemoney for a controversial tribal comment made during the 17th Headies Awards.
While accepting the Afrobeats Single of the Year award on behalf of singer Flavour at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Whitemoney stirred backlash by attributing his presence to the Igbo community.
In his speech, he said: “Hi, ladies and gentlemen. I go by the name Whitemoney, aka the Otamime Master… On behalf of all the Igbos, I say, ayagaya, iligidi, otamime.”
The comment sparked criticism from many who felt it injected ethnic sentiment into a celebration meant to honor Nigerian music as a whole.
Do2dtun joined the critics on social media, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “‘On behalf of the Igbos.’ I’m sorry, that was unnecessary. This award is for Afrobeat, for Africa, for Nigeria not an ethnic group.”
He added, “These narratives matter. He accepted an award recognizing Nigerian artistry. It wasn’t ‘Igbo Song of the Year.’ It’s a track we all celebrated, regardless of language.”
The incident has reignited conversations around ethnicity in the entertainment industry and the importance of inclusivity in national platforms.
