Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has cast doubt on Arsenal’s chances of reaching the Champions League final, instead backing Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan to progress to the tournament’s showpiece.
Despite Arsenal’s dominant 5-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, Ferdinand believes Mikel Arteta’s side will fall short in the semi-finals, where they are set to face PSG—whom they defeated 2-0 earlier in the group stage.
The other semi-final clash will see Barcelona take on Inter Milan, with Ferdinand tipping the Serie A side to come out on top.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “I’m going for a PSG vs Inter Milan final, that’s what I think it will be. And I think PSG will just edge it on the day.”
He added that his ideal final would feature PSG and Barcelona, citing the attacking talent on display: “I would love a Barca–PSG final. That would be my dream final, with two front threes who are throwing it back and have the freedom to attack in such a structured and explosive way.”
