Women in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, staged a peaceful march to show their support for the state of emergency declared in the region on Monday.
Dressed in white, the women gathered at Garrison Bus Stop in the city center around 8am to begin the rally.
They sang solidarity songs as they marched along Aba Road, making their way toward the Government House in Port Harcourt.
This demonstration followed last week’s protest by hundreds of women, under the banner ‘Rivers Women for Sim,’ who opposed the state of emergency and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
On March 18, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in response to the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, a major oil-producing region.
As part of the emergency measures, Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended for an initial six-month period.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) was appointed as the sole administrator to oversee the state during this time.
