President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to return to Nigeria today after nearly two weeks abroad, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga announced the return via X (formerly Twitter), confirming that Tinubu’s trip, which began April 2 with a working visit to Paris, included a stop in London.
He emphasized the president stayed in touch with key officials and that governance continued seamlessly in his absence.
“The President’s commitment remains unwavering,” Onanuga said, noting the return aligns with the earlier announced post-Easter timeline.
However, Tinubu’s prolonged absence sparked criticism from opposition leaders amid worsening insecurity in states like Plateau and Benue.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar labeled the trip “irresponsible,” citing increased violence, while Labour Party’s Peter Obi urged Tinubu to return immediately, noting over 150 Nigerians were reportedly killed during the period.
The APC dismissed the criticisms, insisting the government remains fully functional.
