A lady’s pocket watch belonging to Hans Christensen Givard, a Danish passenger who tragically lost his life in the Titanic disaster, is set to be auctioned off for up to £50,000.

The watch was recovered from Givard’s body, along with other personal belongings, after the ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1912.

Givard, 27, was traveling to the United States with two friends when the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank, resulting in the loss of over 1,500 lives.

The pocket watch, which bears traces of saltwater corrosion, is a poignant reminder of the tragic event.

In the pockets were found a savings book, keys, some cash in a wallet, a silver watch, a compass and a passport.

The watch will be auctioned at Henry Aldridge and Son in Wiltshire, England, on April 26. According to auctioneer Andrew Aldridge, the watch is well-documented and has remained in Givard’s family since its recovery.
