Outspoken activist VeryDarkMan has pledged to fund a new music video for Tell Your Papa, a protest song by veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem that was recently banned by Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

According to DAILY POST, the NBC pulled the track from the airwaves on Thursday, branding it “inappropriate and offensive.” Ironically, the ban has only amplified public interest in the song, which had initially flown under the radar.

In a fiery response on social media, VeryDarkMan slammed the government’s move as an attack on free speech, insisting the track simply reflects the harsh realities many Nigerians face from economic hardship to rampant insecurity.

“I saw the NBC’s notice on Eedris Abdulkareem’s page banning Tell Your Papa the song where he tells Seyi Tinubu to inform his father, President Bola Tinubu, that Nigerians are suffering and dying,” he said in a video. “The government doesn’t want that message out because it cuts too deep.”

He dismissed traditional media as irrelevant in today’s digital age: “Who still tunes in to radio or watches TV? We’ll take this to social media a space they can’t control.”

VeryDarkMan also announced plans for a sequel to the controversial video. “Eedris, we’re shooting another one. I’ll fund it and I’ll feature in it. If we can’t get the President himself, we’ll find a lookalike. Tell Your Papa 2 is coming and it’s going to hit even harder.”

He wrapped up with a scathing critique of government censorship: “They hear the people crying, but they look the other way. And when someone dares to speak up, they try to silence them. But not this time.”
