The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has strongly criticized Atiku Abubakar Isah, a factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), over what it described as false and baseless allegations against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere dismissed Isah’s claims as “salacious, fallacious, and completely unfounded.” The group accused him of spreading misinformation and warned against the misuse of student platforms for political propaganda and divisive rhetoric.

Afenifere also questioned the legitimacy of Isah’s leadership within NANS, suggesting that his actions were politically motivated. The group pointed to a banner displayed at Isah’s alleged inauguration event, which featured images of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and others it described as members of an “anti-Tinubu coalition.”

According to the statement, “This is clear evidence that Mr. Isah is being used by political opponents of President Tinubu to malign his family by targeting his son.”

The organization further criticized Isah for attempting to link his personal struggles to Seyi Tinubu without offering credible evidence, calling the move a veiled attack on the President by proxy.

“Afenifere believes this is part of a broader campaign by political rivals—a coalition of conflicting interests—seeking to undermine the President and his family through surrogate figures like Isah,” the statement added.

The group concluded by cautioning that such tactics have strayed from the bounds of civility and respectful political engagement.
