Bruno Fernandes has expressed his willingness to leave Manchester United if his departure could support the club’s efforts to rebuild following their Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

United suffered a 1-0 defeat in Bilbao on Wednesday, with Brennan Johnson scoring the decisive goal. The result capped off a disappointing season for the club.

Following the match, manager Ruben Amorim hinted at his own uncertain future, stating he would step down without seeking compensation if the club no longer wanted him.

Now, Fernandes, 30, has echoed a similar sentiment. Acknowledging United’s financial challenges and the need for a squad overhaul, the club captain said he would accept a departure if it aligns with the club’s strategy.

“I’ve always been honest—I’ll stay as long as the club wants me,” Fernandes said. “I’m determined to help restore United to its former glory, but if the time comes when the club decides it’s best to move on, whether for financial reasons or otherwise, I’ll respect that. That’s football.”

Despite being one of United’s standout performers this season, Fernandes was unable to influence the game in the final at San Mamés Stadium.
