The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State has called on all intending pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj to maintain discipline, adhere to regulations, and represent Nigeria with dignity throughout their pilgrimage.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General of the League, Alhaji Tajudeen Mustapha Adewunmi, the religious body reminded pilgrims that Hajj is a sacred obligation and the fifth pillar of Islam, reserved for those who possess the physical and financial means. The pilgrimage, the statement emphasized, demands deep spiritual focus, moral uprightness, and total submission to the will of Allah.
“As the Ogun State pilgrims begin their journey to the Holy Land, we extend our heartfelt prayers and congratulations,” said the League’s President General, Shaykh Sikirullahi Babalola. “We urge you to approach this sacred duty with devotion, patience, and exemplary conduct.”
Quoting the Prophet Muhammad’s saying that a sincere Hajj can cleanse a believer of all past sins, the League reminded pilgrims that the pilgrimage is an opportunity for spiritual rebirth and moral renewal.
“You are not merely travelers—you are ambassadors of Islam, Nigeria, and Ogun State,” the statement read. “Your conduct will reflect not only on you but on your community and nation. Uphold values of respect, humility, and integrity in all your interactions.”
Pilgrims were also advised to avoid distractions, such as excessive photography or idle activities, and instead dedicate their time to prayer, Qur’an recitation, and reflection. The League stressed the importance of following all instructions from Saudi authorities, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), and the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
“Patience is essential,” the statement continued. “Endure the inevitable challenges—crowds, long waits, physical strain—without complaints or disputes. Speak only what is good, avoid gossip or foul speech, and help fellow pilgrims, especially the elderly and weak.”
Pilgrims were urged to maintain cleanliness, wear the Ihram properly, and observe modesty. They were also reminded that any form of misconduct could tarnish Nigeria’s image.
“We implore you to avoid any illegal, disgraceful, or aggressive acts. Let Ogun State pilgrims be known for their discipline, decency, and devotion,” the League stated.
The Imams also encouraged pilgrims to use the opportunity to pray for the progress and peace of Nigeria and Ogun State, asking Allah for mercy, protection, and continued development.
The League concluded by reminding the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board of their sacred responsibility in caring for pilgrims. “You are not just administrators—you are custodians of Allah’s guests,” the statement read. “Serve with compassion, fairness, and transparency. Avoid favoritism or personal gain, and let your conduct reflect the trust placed in you.”
“May Allah accept the Hajj of all pilgrims, guide those facilitating the journey, and reward every act of service done in His name,” the statement concluded.
