Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has opened up about a heartfelt moment with her daughter, Michelle, revealing that she recently apologized for her strict parenting during Michelle’s formative years.
Speaking at a film premiere in Lagos, the 47-year-old actress shared the emotional toll of raising a child as a single mother and how her challenges influenced her parenting decisions.
“Just three days ago, I sent her a text to apologize,” Mercy revealed during a press interview. “I said, ‘I’m sorry. I know I was hard maybe even too harsh but my intention was to raise a vessel for God.’”
She recalled a particularly emotional episode that highlighted the lingering impact of her tough love. When Michelle ignored her calls, Mercy had to reach out through a friend. When they finally spoke, her daughter opened up about the emotional scars from childhood, including a painful memory of being struck with a bucket.
These personal reflections align closely with the themes explored in Mercy’s upcoming film, My Mother Is a Witch a drama that examines family trauma, hidden pain, and the journey toward forgiveness.
Set to premiere on May 23, the movie stars Mercy Aigbe alongside Efe Irele, Timini Egbuson, and Neo Akpofure. It is a joint production by Anthill Studios and Frame Flix HQ.
