Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressing confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its current leadership challenges and chart a new path forward.

Saraki made this known on Friday after attending a strategic meeting of the PDP’s “Strategy and Way Forward Committee” in Enugu State. The meeting, held with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, and former governors and current senators Seriake Dickson and Ibrahim Dankwambo, focused on addressing the internal issues affecting the party and outlining a plan for its revival.

Speaking after the meeting, Saraki noted that the team held frank discussions about the crisis within the PDP, particularly the leadership tussle over the position of National Secretary. He emphasized that the group confronted the root of the party’s challenges and began shaping a practical roadmap to reposition the PDP.

The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership dispute between Samuel Anyanwu and Peter Ude-Okoye, both laying claim to the position of National Secretary. The conflict began after Anyanwu stepped aside to contest the Imo State governorship election, during which time the party’s Southeast caucus endorsed Ude-Okoye as his replacement. Following Anyanwu’s defeat in the election, he returned to reclaim the position, sparking a legal battle.

Although the Court of Appeal initially affirmed Ude-Okoye’s position, the Supreme Court later overturned the ruling, reinstating Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.

Despite these challenges, Saraki expressed optimism about the PDP’s future in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote: “I just concluded a meeting in Enugu State with His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, alongside Senators Seriake Dickson and Ibrahim Dankwambo of the @OfficialPDPNig Strategy and Way Forward Committee.

“We didn’t sidestep the issues. We confronted the fractures in our foundation, asked the hard questions, and began shaping a real, workable plan to move our party forward.

“I believe in the PDP. I believe in what it has stood for and what it can still become, if we’re willing to do the hard, unglamorous work of rebuilding from the inside out.

“The road ahead won’t be easy. It will test us and demand more from each of us. But I leave Enugu more convinced than ever: we have the people, the resolve, and the clarity to rise to the occasion—and to lead again. #PowerToThePeople”
