The University of Ilorin has achieved a significant milestone, earning accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for 37 academic programmes presented during the October/November 2024 accreditation exercise.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, 36 of the 37 courses received full accreditation, while the remaining one — Hausa — was granted interim accreditation.

The result of the exercise was conveyed in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, and signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, by the Commission’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu.

The letter confirmed that no course presented by the university was denied accreditation.

Programmes across various faculties were evaluated and approved, including:

Faculty of Management Sciences: Finance received full accreditation.

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences: Anatomy was fully accredited.

Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences: Computer Science received full accreditation.

Faculty of Education: All 17 academic programmes were granted full accreditation.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology: Chemical and Mechanical Engineering earned full accreditation.

Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences: All submitted programmes were accredited.

Faculties of Physical and Social Sciences: A total of seven programmes secured full accreditation.

Faculty of Arts: Igbo received full accreditation while Hausa was granted interim status.

Reacting to the news, Vice Chancellor Professor Egbewole expressed his joy and appreciation, describing the outcome as a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

“We are happy to be so recognized; it is a moment of elation and fulfilment,” he said.

Egbewole attributed the success to the university’s consistent investment in both human and material resources and pledged to sustain the momentum.

He extended his gratitude to the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all faculty members whose efforts contributed to the outstanding result.
