The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has stated that the party would welcome former Kano State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, if he decides to return to the APC.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after receiving the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, Ganduje described the APC as a party committed to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
“Kwankwaso is like a fish out of water, looking for a way back into familiar territory,” Ganduje remarked. “We won’t reject him. A friend in need is a friend indeed. If he expresses interest in coming back, we’re open to accommodating him.”
Drawing on a familial metaphor, Ganduje added, “When you see your son seeking shelter, and you’re the elder brother with a big house, the morally right thing is to offer him a place. So, we won’t shut the door on him.”
Earlier, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, said his visit to Ganduje was to show appreciation and express support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, especially its efforts in Kano.
“We are fully behind President Tinubu and are working tirelessly to ensure Kano remains an APC stronghold come 2027,” Ata stated.
Commenting on the waning influence of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, Ata said the red-cap era in Kano is fading.
“Personally, I wouldn’t support welcoming Kwankwaso back into the APC,” he added. “But if the national chairman decides otherwise, I will respect that decision.”
