Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed comments made by former Ebonyi State Governor, Dr. Sam Egwu, suggesting that Wike’s political influence is waning.

Responding to Egwu’s claim that Wike is “living on borrowed time” and that his political clout is fading, Olayinka stated that those anticipating Wike’s downfall will be disappointed. “They will wait forever,” he said.

Olayinka described Wike as a self-made political figure whose rise has been fueled by hard work, dedication, commitment, and divine grace—unlike Egwu, whom he characterized as a “spoon-fed politician.” He criticized Egwu’s remarks as envious and bitter, asserting, “Those who have mismanaged their own political careers often assume others will follow the same path.”

Addressing issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olayinka reaffirmed Wike’s stance on a faction of South East PDP leaders, who he said failed to deliver results in the 2023 elections but are now threatening to withdraw support from the party. “It is illogical for individuals who contributed little to the party’s success to make such demands,” he said.

He further emphasized the legitimacy of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, in accordance with the PDP constitution. “Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply pushing for the party’s disintegration,” he added.

Reacting to Egwu’s challenge for Wike to intervene in the political crisis in Rivers State and reinstate the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka described the statement as absurd. “It’s shocking that a former Senator would make such baseless claims, as though the FCT Minister wields the authority of the President or the National Assembly,” he remarked.

He concluded by suggesting that Egwu’s comments reveal a deep-seated resentment toward Wike’s continued political ascent. “Sadly, it seems Dr. Egwu is trapped in regret over his own political failings and unfortunately, we cannot stop him from feeling that way,” he said.
