A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Uzoma Ikeuka, has attributed the growing number of defections to the party to what he described as Governor Alex Otti’s lack of transparency in governance.
Chief Ikeuka, who chairs the APC in Obingwa Local Government Area, criticized the Labour Party-led administration for allegedly failing to account for the substantial federal allocations it receives monthly. Speaking during a party meeting in Umuakatawom, Obingwa, he accused Governor Otti of poor resource management and opaque project execution.
“Abians are increasingly joining the APC because Governor Otti has not been transparent in managing the state’s affairs,” Ikeuka stated. “Despite the significant funds at his disposal, there is little to show in terms of impact. Projects are awarded without public knowledge of costs or due process, and people are losing faith, regardless of the online hype.”
Ikeuka praised President Bola Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda, removal of the fuel subsidy, and the increased federal support to states. He expressed confidence that the APC is gaining momentum in Abia and will be in a strong position to reclaim the state in the 2027 elections.
He described the Labour Party administration in the state as a “placeholder,” asserting that the APC is fast becoming the dominant political force. He encouraged more residents to join the party to ensure improved governance.
The APC chieftain also commended Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Kalu, for his efforts in strengthening the party’s structure in Abia.
“The APC is consolidating its base across the state. Influential political figures are joining us, and 99% of recent defectors from other parties are now with the APC,” Ikeuka said. “We are grateful to President Tinubu for his appointments and developmental projects in Abia, such as the creation of the SEDC and financial support for entrepreneurs. We are committed to supporting his re-election and capturing the state’s governorship and legislative seats in 2027.”
Other party leaders, including Elder Godwin Nna, Hon. Uche Nwankpa, Chief Billy Amaechi, and the APC Woman Leader, Lolo Nwandiuko, also expressed optimism about the party’s future, saying the APC is now a formidable political force ready to win in 2027.
