Civil society group, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups Against Corruption in Nigeria (CCSOAC), has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, alleging that operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in Osun State are engaging in gross abuse of power, extortion, and illegal detentions.
According to the petition signed by the group chairman, Mr Ayodeji Ologun and his secretary, Mr Chimezie Anyadike, Amotekun operatives in Osun State have exceeded their powers, transforming into a “rogue militia” that illegally arrests, detains, and extorts innocent citizens.
The group cited a specific incident on June 24, 2025, where Amotekun operatives allegedly extorted ₦6,700 from a citizen, Toyeeb Bisi Oladejo, and later stormed the residence of another citizen, Olaore Taiwo, firing gunshots and abducting him in a Gestapo-style operation.
The petition also alleged that Amotekun operates illegal detention facilities in Osogbo, where innocent citizens are being held over petty civil disputes, loan recoveries, and personal grievances, which are matters beyond Amotekun’s jurisdiction.
The group has demanded immediate action from the authorities, including a full-scale investigation into Amotekun’s activities, disciplinary measures against culpable officers, dismantling of illegal detention centers, and unconditional release of all illegally detained persons.
The group also emphasized that if unchecked, Amotekun’s rogue operations will further erode public trust in security institutions and they also demanded justice for all citizens suffering under this alleged state-sponsored tyranny.
