The Troost-Ekong Foundation hosted its second annual charity football match on Sunday at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, blending sports, entertainment, and philanthropy to support underprivileged children.
In an exciting game, Team Green initially defeated Team White 7–5 in regular time, but Team White clinched victory in a penalty shootout, capping off a memorable event.
Captained by Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong, Team White featured football stars including Victor Boniface, Obafemi Martins, Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, and Cameroon’s Alex Song. Popular musicians Zlatan and Bobo also took to the field with the team.
Team Green boasted a strong lineup with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Joseph Yobo, Moses Simon, and Brown Ideye, complemented by comedians AY, Brodda Shaggi, and ODUMODUBLVCK.
The match delivered plenty of thrilling moments: Prince’s skillful runs, Kelechi Iheanacho’s precise assists, and Boniface’s composed penalty put Team White ahead early. Team Green responded fiercely, with goals from AY, Sikiru Alimi, ODUMODUBLVCK, and Ndidi.
The intensity ramped up as Martins and Ideye scored for Team Green, alongside a notable own goal by defender Chucks, who humorously celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siuuu’ gesture.
Although Team Green won in regular time, the ceremonial penalty shootout favored Team White, with successful spot-kicks from Boniface, Zlatan, and Yemo Lee. Team Green missed twice, handing the shootout and the match to Team White.
Comedian AY was named Man of the Match, delighting fans with two goals and keeping his scoring promise.
“I’m very, very happy,” AY told PUNCH Sports Extra. “I promised my followers I’d score, and I did two goals. Ending as Man of the Match is a great feeling.”
