Osimhen

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that many Chelsea supporters had hoped the club would sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen instead of Liam Delap.

Mikel made the comment after Delap, who recently joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town, provided an assist during his debut in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC at the FIFA Club World Cup. Goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez sealed the Group D victory at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Speaking to DAZN, as reported by TBR, the former Super Eagles captain said:
“We needed someone to come in and score goals and finish chances, but Delap wasn’t the player the fans were expecting.
“Everyone knows the fans wanted Victor Osimhen at the club, but it didn’t happen.
“Delap is still young. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds at Chelsea.”

Chelsea had shown strong interest in signing Osimhen from Napoli last year but failed to secure a deal. Despite this, the Premier League side remains linked with a potential move for the Nigerian forward.
