The Kwara State Government has inaugurated a high-level committee aimed at addressing student loitering and teacher tardiness in public schools as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance discipline and improve punctuality in the education sector.

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development headquarters in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, explained that the committee was established to tackle the growing issues of students wandering during school hours and teachers arriving late or failing to show up for duty.

Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized that the initiative is aligned with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s reform agenda, stating, “This committee is tasked with restoring order and discipline in our schools. I encourage you to carry out your responsibilities with integrity and a strong sense of accountability.”

He advised committee members to work collaboratively, avoid internal conflicts, and approach their duties with dedication and a commitment to positive change.

Supporting the initiative, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Tahueed Bello, and the Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Sheu Adaramaja, pledged their full cooperation. They described the move as consistent with the governor’s mission to “transform the child of nobody into somebody.”

They also called on committee members to help drive the administration’s educational reform goals through committed action and teamwork.

Present at the event were senior officials including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake; Chief (Mrs.) Bosede Daniel, Permanent Member III of TESCOM; Hon. Dorcas Opeyemi, Permanent Member II of SUBEB; Hajia Habitat Muasu, Permanent Member III of SUBEB; and several directors from the Ministry, TESCOM, and SUBEB.
