The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has formally invited controversial artist Speed Darlington to appear in person before the agency on Friday to clarify his recent statements regarding an alleged sexual encounter with a 15-year-old minor.
The invitation comes in light of a viral Instagram live video in which the artist purportedly confessed to having sexual relations with a minor.
According to the agency, the actions constitute offenses under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015, as well as the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
In the video that first went viral on Tuesday, Speed Darlington claimed to have engaged in sexual activities with the minor and gave her ₦2,000 afterward.
NAPTIP added that the artist’s cooperation is essential for a thorough inquiry into the matter, stressing that failure to respond could result in further legal action.
