Kayode Peters Adewumi, a renowned Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and director, has died in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 49 following a prolonged illness.

 

His family confirmed the news on Instagram on Saturday, announcing that he passed peacefully on the morning of June 28, 2025.

 

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning in Toronto, Canada,” the statement read.

 

“KP braved, challenged, and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath. He was a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend a gifted filmmaker, actor, and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed.”

 

Peters gained prominence in 2004 as the creator of the hit sitcom Flatmates, and later served as executive producer of its reboot, My Flatmates.

 

His creative journey began at the University of Lagos, where he developed his craft with the drama group Theatre 15.

 

Over the years, he became a familiar name in Nigerian television, producing successful series like Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco and Company. As a film director, his works include 13 Letters (2019) and the comedy Crazy Grannies (2021).

 

Peters leaves behind a powerful legacy in Nigerian entertainment one marked by compelling storytelling, laughter, and a deep connection with audiences both at home and abroad.
