Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor and 2023 Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has reaffirmed that the Kwankwassiya movement and the NNPP remain grounded in ideological politics, rather than the influence of money or political opportunism.

Kwankwaso made this statement while receiving over 1,230 former supporters of Hon. Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who rejoined the NNPP at his residence on Miller Road.

“I am always pleased to welcome individuals who return to our movement because they share our vision for a better Nigeria not for financial gains,” he said. “This is politics of ideology, not politics of the highest bidder.”

Welcoming the returnees, Kwankwaso described their decision as a meaningful step towards advancing issue-based, progressive politics. He emphasized that the NNPP remains committed to grassroots development and a principled political culture.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo praised Kwankwaso’s leadership, citing his integrity, consistency, and dedication to grassroots development as reasons for their return.

The returning members, from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas in the Kano South Senatorial District, were previously aligned with the Waraka political group and had followed Senator Kawu Sumaila, who recently left the NNPP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Additional defectors came from Bunkure and Tofa Local Government Areas.
