Officers of the Kano State Police Command on Monday intervened just in time to stop a possible suicide attempt by a 19-year-old man who climbed a billboard at the well-known Ado Bayero Bridge, threatening to jump unless he met popular TikTok personality, Abdul BK.
The individual, identified as Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, reportedly climbed the tall billboard and insisted he would end his life if the social media star did not show up.
In a statement released Tuesday, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, said that a rapid response team made up of police officers and Fire Service personnel was sent to the location after a distress call was received.
“Through dialogue and negotiation, the TikToker was brought to the scene. Upon seeing him, the young man agreed to descend and was rescued unharmed.
“He was, however, weak due to prolonged hours without food and was taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for treatment,” the statement read.
Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the rescue teams for their swift and professional handling of the situation and instructed a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The police warned against repeating such behavior and emphasized that attempted suicide is a punishable offence. They also encouraged those dealing with emotional or psychological stress to seek professional support rather than turning to life-threatening actions.
The command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and upholding public safety throughout the state.
