Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, by the nickname “Duduke.”

The nickname became popular after Simi released her 2020 hit single Duduke, a heartfelt song she dedicated to her unborn child while pregnant with Adejare, her daughter with fellow singer Adekunle Gold.

The track quickly resonated with expectant mothers and fans alike, who began associating the song title with her child.

However, in a recent interview with media personality VJ Adams, Simi expressed discomfort with the nickname.

She explained that “Duduke” was not a name and holds no actual meaning it was simply a musical expression used in the song to convey the rhythm of her heartbeat when thinking about her baby.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she said.

While Simi appreciates the love behind the gesture, she urged fans to respect her daughter’s real name. “Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she added.
