The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, located in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, has stated that disciplinary action will be taken against three students recently arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a woman (who is not a student), if they are found guilty of the act.

This was revealed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Gbadebo Adebayo, during an exclusive conversation with PUNCH Metro on Monday.

PUNCH Metro had earlier reported that a widely circulated video captured the moment some female students were seen beating the victim with large, heavy canes.

In the video, the students were heard claiming that their mothers were aware of their actions and expressed indifference about the victim’s personal relationships or who might have reported the incident.

The assaulted woman sustained noticeable injuries on her back, face, and head.

Although a few students attempted to intervene and pleaded with one of the attackers, identified as Lolade, to stop the beating, she reportedly declined, insisting the assault was a way to “teach the victim a lesson.”

In response, the Ogun State Police Command apprehended the students involved.

During his discussion with the correspondent, Adebayo said that after the school learned of the incident, the management began working with law enforcement to ensure the victim receives justice.

He noted that the institution is awaiting the conclusion of the police investigation and emphasized that appropriate disciplinary measures would be enforced in accordance with the school’s rules.

“The management is waiting for the police to complete their investigation and the students involved will also face disciplinary action according to the Institute’s code of conduct.

“OGITECH management once again notifies the general public and the students that we have zero tolerance for any form of anti-social behaviour, including physical fights or assaults, whether on campus or outside the school premises.

“Any student found engaging in such behaviour will face disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct,” Adebayo said.
