A 26-year-old student of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Udochukwu Prisca, is in dire need of ₦30 million for a kidney transplant at Gbagada General Hospital.

The appeal was made public in a statement shared with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday by Gifting Volunteer Network, a non-governmental organisation that supports medical cases for underprivileged patients. Prisca, who hails from Abia State and is enrolled in a Higher National Diploma programme, had to pause her academic pursuits after being diagnosed with kidney failure.

According to the NGO’s founder, David Tamarau-Kuro, Prisca narrated that her health challenges started in December 2024.

“I am 26 years old from Abia State, diagnosed with kidney disease. It all started with a swollen leg and stomach, which I was asked to run tests to ascertain the root cause of my predicament. The test conducted at the Gbagada General Hospital revealed that both kidneys were damaged.

“I am appealing for financial support to get a kidney transplant to return to school again and fulfil my dreams of becoming an engineer.”

The statement also referenced a medical report signed by Dr. A.T. Okunoren, the Medical Director of Gbagada General Hospital, confirming that the patient first came to the hospital with bilateral leg swelling, oliguria, and lethargy on December 24, 2024.

Following extensive clinical and laboratory assessments, she was diagnosed with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) linked to uncontrolled hypertension.

“She has since been on twice-weekly haemodialysis and other nephrology care and will eventually require a kidney transplant. The doctor urges the public to provide all necessary assistance to Prisca Udochukwu,” the statement added.

Speaking on behalf of her friend, Faith Joseph made a heartfelt plea for help from members of the public, stressing that Prisca’s only hope of survival lies in a successful kidney transplant.

“My friend can’t go to school or work due to this illness. We are begging the general public to help us get Prisca on her feet again with their generous mind. Let’s give a chance to live again.”

“Please, let’s support Prisca with whatever we can so she can live again,” Faith disclosed.
