Rotimi-Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what he describes as a total breakdown of governance under President Bola Tinubu.

Amaechi made the announcement on Wednesday during the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) interim leadership in Abuja.

He emphasized that Nigeria is in deep crisis and requires far more than a shift in party leadership it needs a complete political and economic overhaul.

“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. There’s no money. Inflation is at its peak,” he said.

He accused both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding to manipulate future elections.

He confirmed his departure from the APC took place Tuesday night, adding that he was surprised he hadn’t already been expelled.

“You can’t remain in a club where the majority are stealing and stay silent,” he stated.

Amaechi made it clear that his political move isn’t just about switching parties but about building a credible alternative capable of leading Nigeria with integrity and accountability.

On President Tinubu, Amaechi was blunt “I’ve never believed Tinubu is fit to govern Nigeria… People want Buhari back.”

He also criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, pointing to the naira’s dramatic devaluation.

“The dollar was ₦460. Now it’s ₦1,580 that’s over 100% devaluation.”

Asked whether the worsening currency situation could be a deliberate policy choice, he replied.

“Whether deliberate or not, a government that ignores its people is not running a valid policy. Tinubu himself said he’s not here to make Nigerians happy.”

On his future in politics, Amaechi hinted at continued ambition but dismissed any notion of desperation “I have the right to be ambitious. I’m not overambitious.”
