The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of Lance Corporal Ahmed Aminu, a serving soldier, in connection with the death of a phone repairer, Alkasim Ibrahim, in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

 

The incident, which happened on Friday, has stirred public outcry and renewed calls for justice.

 

In a statement released on Saturday by Lieutenant Adebayo Adewumi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 23 Armour Brigade in Yola, the Army said the soldier involved has been taken into custody while a full investigation is underway.

 

“The Nigerian Army is deeply concerned by the reported incident and wishes to inform the public that the personnel involved has been arrested. A comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the full details of the event,” the statement read.

 

Lieutenant Adewumi reiterated the Army’s stance on professionalism, discipline, and adherence to the rule of law, stressing that any misconduct by personnel will not be tolerated.

 

He also assured the public that the findings of the investigation will be made public to promote transparency and ensure justice is served.

 

The Army urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or engaging in actions that could disturb public peace. It reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, discipline, and national service.

 

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked anger among local residents and human rights advocates, who are demanding a thorough and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.
