Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed concerns over a proposed political coalition, insisting it poses no threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as a resilient and united institution especially in the South-West.
Speaking with journalists on Friday after a meeting of the South-West PDP Caucus held at the party’s zonal secretariat in Ibadan, Governor Makinde said PDP leaders in the region remain firmly committed to the party and are determined to resolve internal challenges rather than abandon the platform.
“The PDP in the South-West is united and unshaken. The idea of a coalition is not a threat to us,” he stated. “Who are the people behind this coalition? Many of them have moved between parties PDP, APC, and others. Have they truly changed? Do they have anything new to offer Nigerians? These are the questions we must ask.”
Using a metaphor to emphasize party loyalty, the governor said, “This Soji Adagunodo House is the home of the South-West PDP. If the roof leaks, we won’t abandon it, we’ll repair it. That’s what responsible leaders do. We’re here to fix the issues and reassure our people that their interests are protected.”
Makinde reiterated that the PDP remains the most credible alternative for Nigerians, and any emerging challenges will be addressed internally. “The PDP is not just a political party, it’s an institution. We have our own mechanisms for resolving issues, and when the time comes, we will handle them accordingly,” he assured.
