The Delta State Police Command has taken into custody a suspect identified as Prince, who is accused of stabbing a fellow student, Peace, within the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed the arrest in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, which was also viewed by City Round.
As narrated by Edafe, the suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to lure Peace, a 100-level student, to the school’s auditorium, where he reportedly stabbed her twice—once in the neck and again in the chest.
In the video, Edafe presented both the knife and a mobile phone as pieces of evidence, and added that the victim remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Edafe explained, “With me is a phone and what is supposed to be a kitchen knife, but was used as a weapon in an attempt to murder a 100-level student of the Delta State Science and Technology, Ozoro.
“On the 14th of June, to be precise, the suspect invited someone he claimed to be his friend, named Peace, to their school auditorium. This girl, on that fateful day, went to see him in the auditorium. Whatever the conversation they had, the suspect stabbed the girl twice on her neck and stabbed her also in the chest region.
“Having done that, he took the girl’s phone and called the girl’s father that the girl had been kidnapped and a ransom of N2m should be sent to him for the girl to regain her freedom. He later called again that N200,000 should be sent as an advance. Unfortunately for him, he never knew the poor girl didn’t die.”
He added that while Peace was still unconscious, she was able to mention the name of her attacker, which prompted the school authorities to begin a search for Prince. He was subsequently summoned and arrested.
During his questioning in the video, Prince confessed that he had known Peace for only about a month before inviting her to the auditorium.
He admitted he had gone there with the intention of killing her in order to demand ransom from her father. “She didn’t do anything wrong to me. When I met her that day, we were just discussing school activities and how they are moving us to Warri. She opened her phone for me before I stabbed her.”
He added, “The account I wanted them to transfer to me was owned by a friend in Lagos, and I intended to tell him that a certain money had been sent into his account.”
Edafe concluded that the suspect will be formally charged and prosecuted in court, and assured Peace’s family that she would get justice.
