The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended party member Stella Ogbetta for six months after a social media post that was considered harmful to the party’s reputation.
The suspension was confirmed in a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie. It comes after a similar suspension by the local government leadership and was later ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) during their meeting on Friday.
According to the statement obtained by Sunday PUNCH, the party emphasized disciplinary actions against members involved in misconduct, particularly in Oredo and Ovia South-West Local Government Areas. The communiqué partially reads.
“The SWC strongly condemns recent inappropriate behavior by members, especially social media posts linked to Mrs. Stella Ogbetta, which have negatively impacted the party’s image. Acting on a recommendation from the Oredo LGA Executive Committee, the SWC approved a six-month suspension for Ogbetta.”
The statement also noted that at the end of her suspension, Ogbetta must issue a formal apology to the SWC or risk expulsion from the party.
Details of the post that triggered the suspension were not made public.
