The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly has responded to a leaked audio with strong allegations against the Alasi of Asi, Oba Oyewale Olasunkanmi Isaac, accusing the traditional ruler of orchestrating attacks and issuing threats to his life and that of his aides.
InsightMedia has reported that the speaker was heard in a leaked phone conversation where he was threatening Oba Isaac.
The monarch also confirmed the audio, revealing that his Palace was attacked on Sunday by armed men, adding that he had to run away from the town.
Reacting to the backlash that has trailed the audion, Egbedun said his regard for traditional institutions will not be at the expense of his life.
“I have a deep regard for traditional institutions and respect for the elderly, but that will not come at the expense of my life,” the Speaker stated in a release, asserting that the traditional ruler’s actions were beyond acceptable limits.
According to him, tension began when he relocated to Asi to be closer to his constituents—a move that, he claims, shifted local political dynamics and drew resentment from the monarch.
“The Alasi has perceived me as a threat since my relocation to Asi,” he said, alleging that the monarch’s resentment escalated into violence. “There was the heinous act of sending thugs to attack my convoy about three weeks ago at Okuku while returning home.”
According to him, the attack endangered not only his life but also those of his aides and supporters. The lawmaker said he reported the incident to the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), which led to the arrest of one of the suspects. However, a second suspect, identified as “Easy,” is still at large.
He further alleged that the monarch made a threatening phone call to him, pressuring him to halt the arraignment of the arrested suspect and stop further arrests.
“Such threats, directed at me and on some occasions to my security aides, are utterly intolerable and reflect a troubling collusion,” the lawmaker said. “The Alasi’s repeated threats of further violence against me are a clear attempt to undermine and intimidate me into silence.”

Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed his respect for traditional institutions but made it clear that his life and safety remain a priority. “Let it be unequivocally clear: I have a deep regard for traditional institutions and respect for the elderly, but that will not come at the expense of my life,” he said.
He called on the monarch to reflect on his actions, urging a return to peace and responsible leadership. “I remain steadfast in my commitment to serve the people of Osun State and to uphold the law without fear or favour.”
