The historic city of Ile-Ife in Osun State is set to host the first-ever Ife Road Race on September 25, as part of this year’s Olojo Festival celebrations.
The 5-kilometre race is designed to promote healthy living, showcase Yoruba culture, and uncover emerging athletic talent.
Spearheaded by Adeleke Odewade, a strong advocate for youth development, the initiative has received full endorsement from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
“Our society lacks platforms to discover and nurture talent,” Odewade said. “This race is more than a one-time event—it’s the beginning of a support system for young athletes through coaching, mentorship, and ongoing development.”
The event, organized in partnership with the Alade’fa Athletic Family Initiative, is open to youths, amateurs, and professional runners alike. Participants will receive certificates, while top performers will be awarded cash prizes.
Runners will follow a route that passes through key cultural landmarks, offering a unique blend of sport and heritage.
Organisers are calling on corporate sponsors, government bodies, and philanthropists to support the event through partnerships and sponsorships.
Registration is now open through the race’s official platforms.
