President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office until August 2026.

Adeniyi, whose tenure was previously scheduled to end in August 2025, was granted the extension to ensure the continuity of key reform initiatives under the Tinubu administration.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension will enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing modernisation efforts within the service, drive the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and fulfill Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s continued leadership will strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s core responsibilities in trade facilitation, revenue collection, and border security.

Adeniyi, who officially assumed the role of Customs CG in October 2023 following his confirmation after a period in acting capacity, succeeded Hameed Ali in June 2023.
