Two students from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, have been reportedly abducted while returning to Asaba, the state capital.

The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on the Polytechnic-Azagba Road, when their vehicle — a Toyota saloon — was intercepted by kidnappers, a local source revealed on Monday.

According to the community informant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the female driver, identified as a married woman, was giving her male classmate a ride when both were ambushed and taken by unknown gunmen.

“The lady, on the wheels, is married and was giving her classmate a ride to Asaba when the incident occurred along the Polytechnic-Azagba Road around 6.45 p.m.

The kidnappers have released the married lady on Sunday after collecting about N10m ransom, but the second victim, still in the kidnappers’ den till today as I’m speaking,” the source told PUNCH Metro.

The vehicle used during the attack is now in police custody at the Ogwashi-Uku Police Station.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the abduction in a brief telephone response on Monday.

“It was reported to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division,” Edafe said.

The second victim’s fate remains uncertain as security forces reportedly continue to track the suspects and negotiate the victim’s safe release.
