Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who chairs the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, has announced she will return to her legislative responsibilities on Tuesday, following a court ruling that overturned her suspension.
In a video message shared on social media, the Kogi Central lawmaker thanked her supporters for their unwavering loyalty.
“I’m deeply grateful for your support. Today’s victory is ours. By God’s grace, I will be back in the Senate this Tuesday,” she stated.
Last Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja declared her six-month Senate suspension unconstitutional, excessive, and an infringement on the rights of her constituents. The court ordered her immediate reinstatement.
However, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was fined N5 million for contempt of court over a Facebook post deemed to violate a prior injunction.
Justice Binta Nyako ruled that the post a satirical apology addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio breached an interim injunction issued on March 4, 2025, which prohibited public commentary on the case.
The suspension stemmed from a turbulent Senate session in March during which Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment. The dispute subsequently led to the legal battle over her suspension.
