The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of a notorious one-chance robbery syndicate that has been preying on unsuspecting commuters in Ibadan.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, who said the arrests were made following actionable intelligence and a viral video that exposed the gang’s criminal activities within the Ibadan metropolis.

According to the statement, the state’s Commissioner of Police directed operatives from the Command’s Tactical Units to act swiftly after the video surfaced. The units launched an aggressive manhunt, which led to the arrest of the suspects on July 12, 2025.

“At about 3:30 p.m. on the Old Ibadan/Oyo Road, officers from the Command Monitoring Unit arrested two suspects—Kolawole Moshood, 42, from Olomoyeye Muslim Area, and Opeyemi Kuburat, 45, from Beyerunka Area—both residents of Ibadan,” the statement revealed.

A Nissan Almera vehicle with registration number Lagos FST 779 DL, allegedly used for their operations, was also recovered during the sting.

The suspects reportedly confessed to being part of a one-chance robbery gang and admitted to robbing several individuals using the seized vehicle. So far, three victims have positively identified the suspects as those who attacked and stole from them on separate occasions.

The police noted that the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with further investigations to uncover additional members of the syndicate and recover their weapons.

The Command urged other victims to come forward to aid the investigation and ensure justice is served.

“The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property across the state,” the statement added.
