A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, Adamu Waziri, has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Waziri made the announcement on Monday at his Dogo Tebo Ward in Potiskum, Yobe State, in line with PDP’s constitutional requirement for resignations to be submitted at the ward level.

Explaining his decision, Waziri said the PDP no longer upholds the values of a credible opposition. “I was a member of the PDP, but due to the current realities and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to step down,” he said.

He called on his supporters to follow him in backing a new political platform capable of revitalising democracy and delivering good governance.

Waziri admitted that leaving the party was not an easy decision, but insisted it was necessary as the PDP’s current leadership has strayed from its original vision.

Reacting to the development, PDP Ward Chairman Malam Muhammad Bomai, who represented the local leadership, expressed sadness over Waziri’s exit, describing him as a key figure in the party.

“Waziri has been a backbone of the PDP. His departure is a big loss,” Bomai stated.

In a surprising twist, Bomai also announced his own resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to the ADC, aligning himself with Waziri’s call for renewed political direction.
