The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again refuted claims that he allocated land to any of his children, describing the recurring accusations as baseless and part of a smear campaign.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister dismissed the allegations as groundless and politically motivated.
Wike had earlier been accused of allocating 2,082 hectares of land in Maitama and Asokoro to his son through a company named Joaq Farms and Estates Limited—claims he had already denied.
Responding to fresh accusations involving another supposed land allocation to a different son, Olayinka asserted that political opponents are behind the false narratives, attempting to discredit Wike’s leadership and developmental efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This is yet another failed attempt at blackmail. Those behind these fabricated stories will have to try harder,” Olayinka said. “Nothing will derail the minister’s commitment to transforming the FCT.”
He noted that the previous allegations lacked evidence, and emphasized that both the minister’s children and any Nigerian have the legal right to own land if all requirements are met.
“Last week, they claimed Wike allocated over 2,000 hectares in Maitama and Asokoro to his son, even though no such land exists in those districts. They misrepresented a legitimate farmland allocation in Bwari Area Council to JOAQ Farms,” he explained.
“This week, they are pushing a similar narrative about a company called Jordan Farms, simply because one of the minister’s sons bears the name Jordan.”
Olayinka clarified that while land had indeed been allocated to Jordan Farms and Estates Limited, the company is lawfully registered and has no links to any of Wike’s children.
“The fact that a company bears the name ‘Jordan’ does not mean it is connected to the minister’s son,” he said. “Company ownership details are available with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Let those making these claims present actual evidence.”
Drawing a humorous analogy, Olayinka said, “My name is Lere Olayinka, and there is a Lere Local Government in Kaduna. Does that mean I own it? Am I even from Kaduna?”
He also criticized a vocal critic of the minister, accusing the individual—allegedly from Adamawa—of targeting Wike due to the latter’s stance on power rotation between Nigeria’s North and South.
“Those bent on discrediting the FCT Minister are clearly driven by political vendetta, but like the previous attempt, this one has collapsed before it even started,” Olayinka concluded.
