Femi Dexter Akin-Alamu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, has alleged incidents of vote buying during Saturday’s election.
After casting his vote at Ward 11, Polling Unit 38, located within the University of Ibadan, Akin-Alamu stated that he had received credible reports of voters being offered cash and other incentives in exchange for their support.
He condemned the alleged malpractice, describing it as a serious threat to the integrity of the electoral process and a violation of democratic values.
Despite his concerns, the ADC candidate praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the early deployment of election materials, which, he noted, facilitated a relatively smooth voting exercise.
Akin-Alamu also lamented the low voter turnout, calling it a disappointing indicator of dwindling public engagement in the democratic process.
