The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the bye-election for the Shanono/Bagwai Constituency and the rerun for the Ghari Constituency in Kano State, citing rampant violence and disruption.

In a statement released on Saturday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the elections were plagued by “extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs across several polling units” in the affected areas.

“Verified reports from Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari constituencies indicate that voters were forced to flee due to the chaos, while security personnel on ground were overwhelmed, making it impossible to conduct credible elections,” Morka stated.

He further warned that continuing the electoral process under such conditions would legitimize violence and severely damage the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.

“Going ahead with the Shanono/Bagwai bye-election and the Ghari rerun in the current atmosphere of lawlessness and voter intimidation would go against the principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections,” he said. “It would set a dangerous precedent for future electoral misconduct.”

The APC, therefore, urged INEC to “immediately cancel” both elections to uphold the sanctity of the ballot and safeguard democratic values.
